Frequently Asked Questions About Practices

Do parents need to stay for practice?

Parents may drop off their child for practices and return for pick up at the designated time. Please be aware that coaches are not responsible for swimmers after their practice time, nor do coaches monitor swimmers coming/leaving. There is no “sign in/out” system. Please ensure that your child knows who will be picking them up.

What should my wear/child bring to practices?

  • Swimmers should wear a swimsuit of their choice and have sunscreen pre-applied. Swimsuits do not need to be the team suit, but should be appropriate for fitness swimming.
  • Swimmers should bring a water bottle, goggles, optional cap, and a towel. We encourage you to label your child’s gear with your last name.

How do I know if practice is canceled or delayed for weather?

Rarely are morning practices canceled. It might even be chilly and drizzly, but we still practice unless there is thunder/lightning or if there is a downpour so hard it affects visibility.

Mother nature loves a late afternoon thunderstorm! If the pool is closed/delayed for weather, there will be an adjusted practice. The coach will send out a message when there is a change.

What happens at practice the day after a meet?

Swimmers get their ribbons, the coaches play fun games during practice, and families provide treats. Past “treats” have included ice pops, pancake breakfasts, ice cream sundaes, donuts, snowcones and root beer floats.

What should my child expect practice to look like?

  • Swimmers will warm up with laps and then will receive instruction and practice different strokes and diving entrances into the water.
  • Coaches will primarily remain out of the water for ages 7 and under but may get in the water to demonstrate or help a swimmer with technique.
  • For pre-team (6 and under), coaches may be in the water most of the time helping swimmers.
