Volunteering Job Description (non-certified)

🌊 Wembly Waves: Swim Team is Volunteer Powered! 🏊

Did you know that every swim meet is powered by parent volunteers? That’s right—meets are run entirely by the families of the two teams competing. Without volunteers
 the meet can’t happen!

That’s where YOU come in.

We use SignUp Genius for all volunteer shifts—easy to use and perfect for planning your time. If you’re a parent of a younger swimmer and want the option to leave early, we recommend signing up for the first half of the meet.

Not sure what to sign up for? Here’s a breakdown of the jobs so you can find your perfect fit:

đŸ’« Novice Jobs (Easy to Learn – Great First Step!)

  • Timer
Be one of three timers at each lane. Each uses a stopwatch, and the average is recorded—simple, essential, and a great way to stay close to the action!
  • Head Timer
The “backup hero”! Starts a stopwatch for every heat in case another timer has a malfunction.
  • Runner
The meet messenger! Carries DQ slips from the judges to the referee, and timer sheets to the table workers after each event.
  • Table Worker
Keeps the behind-the-scenes running smoothly—logs times, labels ribbons, and posts results. It’s a great job if you like being organized and indoors!
  • Heat Winner Awarder
Hands out little prizes (like lollipops!) to the winner of each heat. Big smiles guaranteed.
  • 8 & Under Helper
Helps corral our littlest swimmers, keeping them in order and escorting them from the staging area to the pool. Bring your “cat herding” energy!
  • False Start Rope
Positioned across the pool to drop the rope in the case of a false start (we’ll explain how—it’s easy!). 2 volunteers per meet.
  • Hospitality
Help set up our hospitality table, greet arriving families, offer directions, and deliver water/snacks to volunteers working the meet.

🧠 Intermediate Jobs (More Responsibility – Still Totally Doable!)

  • Computer Operator
Enter times into the scoring software, verify timer sheets, and record disqualifications. You’ll have a buddy and plenty of guidance—and yes, you can still take breaks to watch your swimmer race!
  • Clerk of Course
The crowd wrangler! Calls swimmers to line up for their events, checks that they’re in order, and sends them onto the pool deck. Bullhorn provided 😎
  • Announcer
Keeps the meet moving and fun by calling out events and announcing results over the speaker. Great for confident voices who don’t mind a little spotlight.
